The above color kit includes the dye based black (some models only) is good for about 5-6 refills of each color - up to 24 fills in all. The CLI-8 black is a dye based black ink. The PGI-5 is a pigmented black. It woluld not be advisable to interchange the two, as the pigmented ink could clog the dye based print head.
